Captured and handled live venomous snakes, measured and recorded morphological data. Placed and registered PIT tags for identification; assisted with surgical implants of temperature loggers and radio transmitters.

Tracked animals using triangulation radio telemetry techniques with antennas and receivers. Followed established procedures and methodologies, and adapted them to suit project needs.

With the study site located on a private ranch, balanced project goals with the needs of ranch operations.

Constructed operative thermal models to gather environmental temperature data; strategically placed models across the environment based on prior data and my intuition about the habitats snakes would occupy.

Recorded, sorted, and analyzed data using Microsoft Excel and R; built and managed multiple databases. Used ArcGIS to display spatial distribution of rattlesnakes and assess home ranges.

Currently writing the manuscript of a collaborative study on the thermal ecology and movement habits of rattlesnakes, to be defended before a committee as an honors thesis and later published in a scientific journal.

Wilderness Intern, Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Foundation

Assisted a USFS crew clearing trails for recreational safety in remote wilderness areas carrying 40+lb pack, 10+ hours a day, up to 8 consecutive days in rugged terrain, adverse weather, and at high elevations. Navigated using GPS units and maps.

Helped lead interactive sessions for Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Foundation volunteers to learn basics of trail safety, maintenance goals and tool use, bear safety, Leave No Trace principles, and more.

Utilized a range of tools (chainsaws, crosscut saws, axes, pulaskis, hammers, drills, etc.) with proper personal protective equipment. Felled and bucked trees, cleared brush, leveled uneven ground, dug culverts, created new trail sections. Conducted visitor use surveys, backcountry horse camp assessments.

Worked with, packed, led, and rode stock horses and mules up to 11 miles through steep montane wilderness in grizzly bear country.

Aided biological surveys of local bat and goshawk populations in relaying acoustic calls and identifying individual animals in the field.
